Source types:
There are two types of sources the shows are made from. Stand Definition or SD and High definition or HD. Shows from a SD
sources would include digital channels, analog channels, old VHS tapes, and all resolution being 720 x 480 captured at 9mb/s.
Shows from HD sources are made from a 1080i source, with a resolution being 1920 x 1080 captured at 75mb/s bit rate. As you
can guess the HD shows are superior in every way. All new shows are produced from a HD source. So even if you buy a DVD
show, and not Blu-ray show, DVDs are SD by nature, but since the new DVD shows are created from video from a HD source,
this will mean the show will look better than that of a normal DVD show from a SD source.
All New shows are made from a HD source
Disk types:
There are now three different disk types available, DVD, DVD on Blu-ray, and Blu-ray. DVDs are your standard DVD shows,
they are on single layer Disks, have a standard resolution of 720 x 480 (normal for TV's) and will play on your computer's DVD
drive, your stand alone DVD players, PS2 and PS3s, xbox 360s etc. DVD on Blu-ray, these are Blu-ray disks, that are formatted
as DVDs. What does that mean? Well you will need a Blu-ray player to play these disks, they are in fact Blu-ray Disks, however
they use the resolution and bit rate of a DVD, in other words they are 720 x 480 wide screen SD. Why would you buy a Blu-ray
for SD quality? Well consider this, on one Blu-ray disk you can put about 31 episodes of a show on it. Versus a DVD which can
only hold 6 episodes of that same show. So about 5 DVDs can fit on one blu-ray. So rather than have a bunch of DVDs you can
have the convenience of one or two blu-ray Disks, and sometimes the DVD on Blu-ray will have a Higher Bit rate than that of it's
DVD counter part, making it look better. Blu-ray, these are Blu-ray disks that are formatted as HD Blu-ray shows, these disks
are meant to be played in stand alone and computer Blu-ray players. These Blu-ray Disks are formatted as 1920 x 1080 and are
progressive or 1080p this is the same as watching a Blu-ray movie, You will not find a better looking show than this. I highly
recommend buying these if you can afford it. It is well worth it.
